Richard D. Kincaid

In Memoriam 1961-2020

Richard Kincaid, businessman, investor, philanthropist and musician passed away in March 2020. Among his many engagements at the time of his passing was founder and CEO of SageGreenLife; a green tech company for commercial real estate in Chicago IL.

A native of Kansas, Richard received his Bachelor’s in finance from Wichita State University and his MBA from the University of Texas. He went on to lead a diverse and highly successful business career. Richard held 3 C-level positions (CFO, COO and CEO) at Equity Office Properties. At 33, Richard became one of the country’s youngest CFO’s, working with the company’s Chairman, Sam Zell, for over 16 years. Richard developed the financial, technology and integration strategies for the company during its tremendous growth, leading $11B in financings, $17B in acquisitions, and ultimately its IPO in 1997. In 2007, Richard led Equity Office through its $39B acquisition by the Blackstone Group.

Richard also served on, and chaired several public company Boards, including Rayonier Inc. (NYSE: RYN), Vail Resorts (NYSE: MTN), Strategic Hotels and Resorts (NYSE: BEE), and Dividend Capital Diversified Property Fund (DPF).

In 2008, Richard started pursuing many philanthropic causes through his BeCause Foundation by creating innovative ways to improve the health, education, and welfare of children. Richard became an active private investor, advisor, and director in several early-stage companies in healthcare, social media, biotechnology, financial services, green tech, IoT and media, privately and through RKSage, LLC, the holding company and family office for his investments. Richard was also a talented musician and singer, with 2 full albums to his credit.

Richard is missed by all of us at SageGreenLife and its affiliated companies. We are constantly reminded of his smile, big heart, generosity, talent, perseverance, and his biophilic vision of greening the world.
